13 Facts You Didn’t Know About Anthony Taylor

A few months ago Windsong put together a spot for our friends over at Children’s Hospital Central California called, “The Business of Being a Kid.” One prop that was used to dress a science scene was an ant farm.

Now, I’m not exactly sure how it happened but somewhere in between surviving the Mayan Apocolypse and being the intern who turned a science project prop into a science project piece of office decor, I became an ant expert. For example, I now know that insects need protein twice a week and that the ants we have in the Official Windsong Ant Farm are all females.

In addition to all my insect knowledge that I’ve accidentally acquired lately, the coming of the ants to Windsong brought with it one tid-bit of trivia that made me giggle: Anthony, ironically nicknamed “Ant,” is myrmecophobic. That’s right. He’s a grown man who is afraid of ants.

This got me thinking that there may be a lot more I don’t know about good ol’ “Hootz.” So without further adieu, here are 13 facts you didn’t know you wanted to know about Anthony “Hootz” Taylor. Why should you care? Mostly because Anthony is awesome. And it’s 2013.

1. He is a classically trained saxophonist. Started at age 10. He also conducts.

2. His freshman year of high school he lettered in badminton.

3. He has no ability to cut in a straight, clean line.

4. He really likes salad. Seriously.

5. For a while, he had a string of odd jobs including: waiter at a Chinese restaurant, personal assistant to the Deputy Mayor of Fresno, strip club DJ and laser tag Marshal.

6. He was bitten by a baby lion named, Couscous.

7. He has uncanny knowledge of Robert’s Rule of Order because he was parliamentarian of Kappa Kappa Psi, his college band fraternity.

8. He has a soft side: he knows how to knit.

9. His infamous nickname, “Hootz,” was inspired by the owl that plays saxophone on Sesame Street. It was self-given for no other reason than that he wanted a cool nickname.

10. He is a mediocre juggler.

11. He was Senior Class President, which means that he read the names of his classmates at his high school graduation. Hardest name: Adrian Hermohenes Prodigalidad. If you’re reading this Adrian, his pronunciation is pretty impeccable.

12. He first met our creative director, Byron, in 2005, during a production of “Fiddler On the Roof” where they both volunteered to be a part of.

13. He under no circumstance likes ants. This could be because they are pests or because he was bitten by them in a freak red ant attack at Fresno State.

So, now you know.
