This week we’re sharing what brought each member of the Windsong crew to production as a profession. A couple days ago, we heard from Byron, Sara and Tony. Tomorrow we’ll hear from Kyle, Krause and Scott. Today we hear from these people.
Conlan:
Over the years I’ve discovered I have one particular creative motivation. When I create anything — tweets, scripts, blog posts, inflammatory YouTube comments, anything that I’m presumptuous enough to put in front of other eyes — I’m driven by an intense desire to not waste people’s time. I value my own time and attention, so I don’t want to take up yours unless I’m saying something interesting, informative or entertaining. If I can’t do that, there’s no point. So when you get down to it, that’s really the main thing that inspires me: being worth your time. That’s why I’m here.
Jo:
When I was in college I worked in the corporate communications department for a network of community hospitals. I produced and wrote a handful of segments for their local medical show. That was my first experience working in production. Then a few years later, I went to a taping of The Ellen DeGeneres show. I saw a lot of people running around the set, coordinators getting the audience energized and even writers making last minute opening monologue changes. I loved seeing the fast-paced world of production. That’s when the light bulb turned on for me…
Actually, I think I knew I wanted to work in production in 1996 when my Fridays were consumed with “T.G.I.F” on ABC. There was something about an animatronic cat named Salem that intrigued me. Yeah, that was definitely the moment.
Haley:
I like to believe I’m an actor at heart, but the truth is I’m a born producer. I remember choreographing a dance to Paula Abdul’s “Opposites Attract” in third grade, then convincing my teacher to give my classmates an afternoon break so they could watch my friends perform it on the playground. In college, I was the hippie activist chick who was constantly harassing people to attend my numerous protests, demonstrations and performance benefits. I’ve also always been the friend who puts together the reunions and the road trips and the surprise parties. For whatever reason, I enjoy instigating or, at the very least, being a part of making things happen. Add in the fact I have a deep love and appreciation for film, theatre, music and art and it’s really no accident I ended up at a place like this.
Come back tomorrow to hear from the rest of the team.
