What keeps you from the movie theater? Price? Time? Good movies? For me it’s the first two. As a new screenwriter, I’m dedicated to watching movies of all sorts. From rom coms to action flicks. From art house to grind house. It’s helps me develop an aesthetic and study structure. So imagine my surprise and excitement when I saw a link float through my Twitter feed about MoviePass.
MoviePass is a service that lets you watch a movie a day in almost any movie theater for $29 a month. So three movies a month and this thing pays for itself. The only caveat is that you can’t see the same movie twice. I know…not awesome. But the rest of it seemed pretty cool.
I bought my MoviePass subscription and I’ve committed to using it for the next two months to see if I can parlay it into seeing more movies in the theater. It works at all the movie theaters in Fresno, so I’m covered there. The subscription has an app for my iPhone and a credit card that was sent via mail. When I want to see a movie, I get within 100 yards of the theater and check-in to the movie I want to see via the app. I then have thirty minutes to retrieve the ticket from the kiosk as if I had purchased it online via the provided credit card.
I used it to see “Argo” on Friday night and it worked perfectly. I discovered I could also use my Regal Crown Club card as well, so I can get points for free popcorn, soda and candy. So far, MoviePass passes with flying colors.
Horrible tag line, I know. Sorry, but I really do love MoviePass so far. And “Argo” was good too. Better than MoviePass. So…yeah. Check it out.
